Important Notice:
This year it is mandatory that all parents and coaches that
participate on the ice must wear a helmet. This has been mandated by
Hockey Canada.
---------------
Hockey for Beginners accepts players 4 yrs old and up. Player sessions are grouped by age.
---------------
Note: Participants require CSA approved protective hockey equipment
--------------
We follow the Initiation Program as dictated by Hockey Canada (Formally
called CHA). This program is very well designed and will help your child
learn the proper way to skate, step by step. It incorporates games that
reinforce the skills being taught. Pucks are introduced only after the
players are strong enough skaters that they can handle this additional
task (usually around Christmas time). We use a 4oz puck that is blue
in colour as these are easier for the young hockey players to handle.
All parent volunteers are asked to wear skates on the ice and bring
a hockey stick, NO SHOES please! Siblings that are under 12 years of
age are respectfully asked not to go on the ice to help out due to safety
concerns. Those that are 12 to 16 years old are asked to wear a helmet.
We also encourage high school students requiring community service
hours to come out and help with the beginners program. If you know of
any students that require their high school community service hours,
please tell them to get into contact with the hockey for beginners,
All hockey equipment must be worn at all times by the participants
including a neck guard. Instructors will ask the young hockey players
to leave the ice if they do not have all the necessary equipment. Please
help us avoid upsetting the young participants by ensuring that they
are fully protected by wearing all the equipment. See
equipment page for details.
Tim
Horton's is our sponsor.
Please show your appreciation by stopping by a Tim Horton's
after your session on the ice. If your child wear his/her jersey and
shows the "I'm thirsty" (sewn inside the bottom of the jersey)
he/she will receive a free drink. (Not valid at the drive
thru).
If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact
us.
Have fun!
