About our Program

We follow the Initiation Program as dictated by Hockey Canada. This program is very well designed and will help your child learn the proper way to skate, step by step. It incorporates games that reinforce the skills being taught. Pucks are introduced only after the players are strong enough skaters that they can handle this additional task (usually around Christmas time). We use a 4oz puck that is blue in colour as these are easier for the young hockey player to handle.

All volunteers are asked to wear skates and a helmet on the ice and bring a hockey stick, NO SHOES please! (Insurance reasons) Siblings that are under 12 years of age are respectfully asked not to go on the ice to help out due to safety reasons.

We also encourage high school students requiring community service hours to come out and help with the beginners program. If you know of any students that require their school community service hours please tell them to get into contact with the hockey for beginners.

All hockey equipment must be worn at all times by the participants including a neck guard. Instructors will ask the young hockey players to leave the ice if they do not have all the necessary equipment. Please help us avoid upsetting the young participants by ensuring that they are fully protected by wearing all the equipment. See equipment page for details.

** Important Notice: Parents are strongly encouraged to attend a parent meeting (players do not need to attend) on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 at 7:00pm upstairs at West Ferris Arena. The meeting is not long but it is important. We will be explaining how the program works and what our expectations are of you.

Most importantly, at this meeting we will also be handing out sweaters and socks and your son/daughter teams' schedule. If you are not able to attend this meeting, then you will be required to contact Scott or Ginette at (705) 472-9751 or email scottginettekile@hotmail.com and find out the time of your child's first ice session. Please do not call until after the October 4th meeting but before October 12th as this is our first on ice session.

Cheers/Coach Scott
